There are many kinds of cancer and mesothelioma is one of them. Some people may not know the cancer since it is quite rare to find compared to the cancer of lungs and others. It is actually cancer that grows on mesothelium. It is a very thin tissue on most of human’s internal organs.

This cancer cannot be taken lightly. It is one of the deadly cancers. The growth and its impact on the body are so aggressive. That's why those who are diagnosed with this cancer are hard to cure. The treatment is difficult due to the cancer location.

Based on the location, there are two types of cancer. There is pleural mesothelioma and it refers to cancer that grows and affects the tissue of lungs. The next type is peritoneal mesothelioma that occurs on the area of abdomen, heart, and testicle.

The Symptoms of Mesothelioma

Although it is deadly type of cancer, there are still some precautions to see. The symptoms are also based on the type of cancer. For the pleural mesothelioma, it usually shows symptoms, such as painful coughing and short breath accompanied by the pain in the area of chest.

Then, the peritoneal mesothelioma shows some common symptoms. For example, people can feel nausea and pain in the area of abdomen. There can also be swelling and drastic weight loss in short period of time without clears reasons.

The Risk Factors of Mesothelioma

There are also some risk factors that increase the possibility for someone to get the cancer. These are some of them.

1.    Family history of the cancer

It is clear that when the parents or siblings have the cells of mesothelioma, the inheritance will get high possibility of the cancer. It is because this disease may be inherited by generation.

2.    Exposure of asbestos

Asbestos is type of fiber. Those who work with the fibers and other materials related to this will get high risk of the cancer. The exposure of fiber can trigger the growth of cancer cell. Moreover, it does not only affect the one who works or get the exposure, yet people who live with these people also get high risk of mesothelioma.

3.    Radiation therapy

Radiations on the chest can increase the risk of cancer cells. Those who get the therapy of radiation may get exposed and the cells are affected by the radiations. Therefore, it is important to be careful in taking radiation therapy.
