Concrete Vibrator Motor

Sometimes we think that just pouring concrete is enough to do its job. Many times the care that concrete must have is not taken into account for it to function properly.

One of the most important care to be performed is a good vibrating of the concrete. With this action we make sure to eliminate the air that can be generated by pouring the concrete and make the concrete fulfill its main mission for a long time. We discuss the improvements we will have when making a good concrete vibration and how to do it.

Improvements with vibrating concrete

By vibrating the concrete, we improve the behavior of the concrete. With this we make our concrete much stronger and more durable.

Some improvements that we will obtain with the care of the concrete would be:
  • Resistance : It is the main benefit of vibrating concrete. As there is no air in the mass, it makes it more compact and stronger.
  • Duration : By removing air from the concrete, we avoid oxidation. As there are no pores, we avoid any entry of water, oxygen or any particle that may affect the structure.
  • Anchoring: Since there is no air, we eliminate the pores that may be in the reinforcing bars, thus achieving more contact surface and more grip between the concrete and the reinforcing bars.

How to vibrate the concrete

It is just as important to remove the air with a good vibration of the concrete as doing it correctly.

There are some points to keep in mind when vibrating the concrete.
  • Introduce the vibrator vertically and with speed. We need that the vibrate can eliminate the air from the lower layers to the outside, so it is necessary to introduce the vibrator with speed and to the depth to eliminate all the air.
  • Remove it slowly and inclined. In this way the lower part will be well compacted and we will avoid leaving the marked exit point.
  • The optimal time should be between 10 and 15 seconds.
  • It is preferable to perform the action more times in a short time than the opposite, a few times and a long time.
  • In the first vibrations, it is recommended to start at corners and recesses and ensure that the fines are repositioned, but at the same time, taking care not to hit the formwork.
  • The vibrator is not a shovel to move the concrete. Avoid using the vibrator for this use.
  • Have a replacement vibrator on site. In the event that a vibrator is damaged, have another on hand since it would be quite expensive to break the concrete mass.
