Causes of Car Vibration After Clutch Replacement

Before knowing what causes the car to vibrate when releasing the clutch pedal, it's a good idea to know the working principle of the clutch on a car with a manual transmission.

When the clutch pedal is pressed, the clutch release fork and release bearing press against the diaphragm spring or sun spring to free the clutch disc/clutch plate from being squeezed between the clutch cover plate and the flywheel surface, the flywheel rotates with the engine and clutch cover.

When the clutch pedal is released slowly, the clutch plate will rub against the flywheel and the pressure plate on the clutch cover until the clutch plate is fully compressed and rotates together with the flywheel and clutch cover.

When releasing the clutch pedal and when the clutch plate starts to rub against the flywheel and the pressure plate on the clutch cover.

If there is an uneven surface, either on the flywheel or clutch plate, it will cause vibration and that is what is called clutch vibration.

The cause of an uneven surface, either the flywheel surface or the clutch plate or clutch cover is usually due to wear and tear.

The clutch lining which is visible in some parts has signs of uneven friction with other parts which causes the clutch to vibrate.

The clutch plate and clutch cover still look new and have not been replaced for a long time, but the clutch vibrates.

The vibration is not caused by wear or unevenness of the clutch plate, flywheel or pressure plate on the clutch cover.

But it is caused by the uneven tightening of the clutch cover holder bolt to the flywheel or the bolt tightening moment is not the same.

Clutch cover fastening bolts from several car manuals, there are various levels of tightening clutch cover bolts. Some use class 5T bolts, use class 6T or class 7T bolts.

Usually the clutch cover bolt has an outer thread diameter of 8 mm or a bolt with a 12 mm bolt head, the clutch cover bolt tightening moment is 19 Nm, or some use a tightening moment of up to 25 Nm, as in the example of the Suzuki APV which has a bolt tightening moment. up to 34 – 44 Nm

After reinstalling the clutch set above with the tightening bolts that match the moment on the six clutch cover bolts, the result is that there is no longer felt clutch vibration when releasing the clutch pedal.

Car Vibrates When Releasing Clutch

Causes of Vibrating Clutch

1. The surface of the Flywheel / Gears is uneven

The first cause of the clutch vibrating is because the flywheel is uneven/damaged. The damaged surface of the flywheel is usually caused by prolonged use, as a result, the surface of the clutch lining that is connected to the flywheel is imperfect, this is usually one of the main factors that make the clutch vibrate when shifting the transmission.

2. Abnormalities in the Clutch Plate Spring and Bolt Tightness in the Clutch Cover

The second cause of the clutch vibrating is because the bolt on the clutch cover is too tight or usually there is an abnormality in the clutch plate spring. Therefore, after installing the bolts on the clutch cover, try to check the tightness of each bolt so that the clutch can work optimally so that there is no vibration when shifting the transmission.

3. The Diaphragm Spring on the Clutch Cover Weakens

Next is the diaphragm spring which has weakened. The diaphragm spring on the clutch cover that has weakened will usually be difficult to dampen vibrations when the release bearing presses on the diaphragm spring, so the vibrations generated from the engine rotation will be felt when driving.

4. Release Bearing Broken

The fourth cause of the clutch vibrating is due to a damaged release bearing. Release bearings that have been damaged will greatly affect the production of vibrations when shifting gears. Release bearings that are already hilarious will produce a very rough spin.

5. Engine Mounting Broken

Besides technical factors in the clutch, the cause of the clutch vibrating can also be caused by damage to the Engine Mounting. Engine Mounting itself is a component that connects the engine to the vehicle frame. And the main function of the engine mount is to hold the engine. This engine mount is made of metal and has rubber on the inside. And the rubber functions as an engine vibration absorber so it doesn't reach the vehicle body. However, if the rubber is damaged or broken, the car will vibrate. If this is the case, then immediately replace the engine mount

6. There is Liquid on the Surface of the Clutch

The last cause of the clutch vibrating is the presence of fluid on the clutch surface. Cars usually pass through streets where there are puddles of water during the rainy season, especially for those who live in downtown areas that are prone to flooding, of course, they will often experience problems like this. So don't be surprised if your car often vibrates, because basically the car clutch is dry so it will easily vibrate if it is exposed to water or oil, although the vibration can be said to be quite light.

After knowing the source of the cause, immediately take corrective steps.

Especially, if the vibration is caused by an uneven flywheel. Not only does it interfere with driving comfort, if left for a long time the uneven flywheel can make this component wear out sideways.
