What is gamification for?

Video games exercise great power over part of the population, the resources allocated to them are many, both monetary and temporary and, in this situation, many have tried to take advantage of these skills and positive attitudes of video games to apply them in others areas such as school or work.

In this way, people are motivated, either by competing with other colleagues and showing who is the best, to gain an incentive, or to demonstrate hidden skills.

Elements of gamification

The main elements of gamification are:

  • Mechanics : There are rules that indicate what can and cannot be done, and it is one of the basic pillars of any game. In this way, the player acquires awareness and commitment. In addition, they can set the playing time, the teams, who is the winner, etc.
  • Game dynamics : They represent the incentive by which the player is motivated, they could be, for example, the act of socializing with a group, getting a challenge, competing, winning, etc.
  • Components : They are those essential elements for the game to develop. For example, a board, a goal, the medals that are obtained when passing the level, etc.

In conclusion, we must differentiate gamification from a simple video game, since this technique is always carried out in non-playful environments, with the aim of motivating, building loyalty and getting more out of a task, taking into account the concentration and incentive they cause.
